ROCKLAND, NY- According to Clarkstown.dailyvoice.com, a crash took place on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at the intersection of Wilder Road and Lime Kiln Road just prior to 11:30 in the morning. Two vehicles were involved.
Police reports indicate that a 2015 Honda Odyssey collided with a 2011 Toyota Prius. The woman driving the Honda and her children, ages 1, 3 and 5 were all taken to the Westchester Medical Center for treatment of injuries they sustained in the crash. The driver of the Prius and his pregnant wife were both taken to the Good Samaritan Hospital.
None of the injuries sustained in the collision are considered life-threatening.
The crash is still under investigation.
Many car accidents take place at intersections. Intersections involve roadways with cars traveling in different directions and the chances for a mistake leading to an accident are high. In fact, more than 50 percent of all injury-causing and fatal vehicle collisions take place at intersections.
In recent years, there has been a greater focus on finding ways to make traffic control methods and infrastructure better at actually reducing the number of collisions that take place. While 90 percent or more of all car crashes are the results of driver behavior or driver mistakes, research indicates that roads can account for common errors with more innovative designs.
The Federal Highway Commission has found several alternative intersection designs that can lower the number of crashes that take place. Roundabouts, continuous flow intersections, mini-roundabouts, and restricted crossing U-turn intersections are all possible ways to lower the risk of car accidents at intersections.
