According to an article on usatoday.com, a man was apprehended and arrested in Brooklyn after he allegedly stole a school bus and then used the bus to crash into several motor vehicles and a building. The New York Police Department affirmed in its statement to reporters that NYPD officers answered a call concerning a stolen school bus that was used to crash into several cars in Brooklyn. As the police officers tried to enter the bus, the suspect began to fight law enforcement officers, according to the NYPD official statement.
The report states that NYPD officers attempted to use a Taser on the suspect, but the man fled in the school bus and headed toward Queens. The suspect then hit a building before he became trapped in a traffic jam. The man then rammed the school bus into several privately owned vehicles. The suspect was finally stopped and placed under arrest after racing through several police precincts.
The 43-year-old man is facing criminal charges, including reckless endangerment, grand larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle, forgery, obstruction of governmental authority, criminal possession of the stolen property, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, and resisting arrest.
According to the news report, law enforcement officers used GPS to track the bus.
One witness reported that the suspect rammed the school bus into every single car on the block. One vehicle struck had a woman inside and the witness was able to remove her before the collision. He believes the woman would have died if she had not been removed from her car in time.
Fortunately, there were no kids on the school bus, the NYPD verified. One NYPD officer sustained an injury, and three other people were reported to have sustained injuries. The incident is currently under investigation.
