According to an online news report from the DailyVoice.com, a 1-year-old boy was tragically killed, and a 3-year-old boy sustained severe personal injuries when an Amazon 18-wheeler truck hit a family’s motor vehicle from behind. The family was from Maryland, and the truck accident occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike in Cranbury last Friday night.
The two young boys were passengers in a Toyota Camry that was being driven by a 24-year-old driver. The driver of the Toyota Camry also received personal injuries that were not life-threatening. The other passenger in the car, a 64-year-old woman, also suffered serious injuries, according to New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan.
The family from Randallstown, Maryland, was traveling southbound on the New Jersey Turnpike when their motor vehicle was hit near mile marker 69 in Cranbury. The accident occurred at approximately 11 p.m., according to New Jersey State Police Trooper Marchan.
Law enforcement was unable to confirm that the driver had veered to avoid a bed mattress that was in the turnpike’s roadway. The news report states that a crane had to be used in order to remove the Amazon tractor-trailer from the car that was trapped underneath the truck. Fortunately, firefighters were successful in extricating the accident victims. The Amazon truck driver, a 53-year-old man from Bronx, New York, suffered non-life-threatening personal injuries.
New Jersey State Police are still investigating the accident.
