WEST BABYLON, N.Y. — A 60-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car crossing Little East Neck Road in West Babylon. The incident happened at 5:50 p.m. on Friday, according to the Daily Voice. Suffolk County Police accident investigators opened an inquiry into the crash they said occurred a short distance north of 12th Street. Suffolk Police said that the victim was a resident of West Babylon. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, a 55-year-old man from Wyandanch, did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
First Squad detectives are combing through evidence to determine exactly why the driver of a 2006 Kia did not avoid colliding with a 60-year-old woman trying to cross Little East Neck Road Friday evening around 5:50 p.m. The first reports from the scene suggest that the 2006 Kia was heading north in Little East Neck Road when the vehicle struck the pedestrian. Medics transported the mortally injured woman to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center located in West Islip. Doctors there declared that she had passed away from her injuries.
First Squad detectives have asked for people who might have some information about the crash to come forward and share what they know. As a matter of accident investigation protocol, the investigating officers impounded the 2006 Kia to perform a safety check. The police did not announce the results of their examination of the vehicle. The police did not discuss any information about the lighting in the area at the time of the collision.
The Daily Voice published a photograph of the area courtesy of Google Street View. The picture shows Little East Neck Road with two lanes, one headed south and the other north, with sidewalks lining the street. Streetlights are on some of the telephone poles that line the east side of the street.
