Florida – According to Wtxl.com, a woman was hospitalized after a crash in which her vehicle veered off the road in Jefferson County, Florida on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. The vehicle rolled over multiple times and then crashed into trees close to the border of Georgia.
The incident occurred at about 10:10 a.m. on U.S. Highway 221 close to Windom Road when the victim was driving northbound and then crossed the centerline and drove over the southbound lanes and off the south side of the roadway.
The driver, identified as 39-year-old Shaquandra Davis was operating a 2012 Ford Explorer which appears to have driven onto the grass before striking a tree and then flipping over twice. Upon hitting a second tree, the vehicle finally came to a stop.
Davis was rushed to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where her condition was reported as serious.
According to troopers, there are charges pending in connection to the crash. It is not known at this time whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
About one out of five victims in fatal traffic accidents die in crashes that involve just one vehicle. Many of these crashes involve cars driving off of the road and striking an object, such as a tree or a utility pole. Other times vehicles flip and roll over. Rollovers are far more common in tall vehicles such as SUVs and pickup trucks. Both of these scenarios are particularly deadly to vehicle occupants.
People can drastically reduce their chances of dying in a single-vehicle crash by staying attentive, abiding by the speed limit, only driving while sober, and wearing their seatbelts.
