Outdoor Eating Crash Result in Injuries
BROOKLYN, NY – According to a news report from nbcnewyork.com, another motor vehicle accident involving an outdoor eatery area occurred yesterday and resulted in personal injuries. The driver who crashed their car into the patrons fled the scene. The hit-and-run driver injured at least one person, and the collision caused the patrons to run away from the car plowing into the eatery to avoid getting injured or killed. The pedestrian accident happened around lunchtime and occurred on Franklin Street in Greenpoint in front of the Cafe Alula restaurant.
A woman was injured in the accident, and she was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment of her injuries. Her injuries were non-life-threatening, and she was released later that day. The driver responsible for causing the severe collision left the scene without determining if anyone was injured or killed. Witnesses stated that the driver slowed down, but only for a brief moment, and then the driver sped away. Police said that they had not found the driver since the accident happened last Thursday night.
The accident is one of several that have been occurring throughout New York City and the five boroughs. Safety advocates are asking city officials to allow the restaurant industry to move toward dine-in services within the city. Thursday’s pedestrian accident follows another very severe outdoor dining area pedestrian accident that happened on the Upper East Side three nights prior to this accident. Another pedestrian outdoor eatery accident occurred back in July when a truck crashed into the Sunset Park restaurant’s outdoor eating area, causing injuries to three people.
Although there are thousands of outdoor eatery areas in the city, there have only been a few of these pedestrian accidents. However, some restaurants that are concerned for their patrons’ safety have added extra barriers to help safeguard their customers.
According to Governor Andrew Cuomo, the state and local officials have not set a timeline for the return of indoor dining. Mayor Bill de Blasio said that evidence confirms that indoor dining causes a heightened-risks of COVID exposure.
