The driver, a 65-year-old woman, was traveling westbound on Avenue M in Midwood, New York, around 5:30 pm. The woman attempted to make an illegal U-turn at a red light at East 12th Street and struck the pedestrian, making the u-turn, according to police.
The victim, who was walking along East 12th Street, was trying to cross Avenue M, was walking in a marked crosswalk. The victim was severely injured, and she was transported to Maimonides Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
