WILLIAMSBURG, NY – According to an online news report published on cbslocal.com, police are looking for a driver who struck and injured two pedestrians in Brooklyn, New York, and then fled the scene of the accident. A video camera recorded the hit-and-run accident in Brooklyn, New York, and police are conducting full accident and criminal investigations.
The surveillance camera video footage shows an automobile colliding with two pedestrians who were crossing the street at the intersection of Wallabout Street and Lee Avenue in Williamsburg, New York. According to the police, a man and woman were crossing a street around midnight on Wednesday. As the couple attempted to cross the street, the couple was hit by a car. The video shows the hit-and-run driver turning a corner, slamming into the pedestrians, and then driving off. The news report claims that one of the pedestrian accident victims was thrown into the middle of the road after being struck by the car. The other pedestrian fell onto Lee Avenue shortly after the victim was forcibly pushed down by the car.
According to the news report, the two pedestrian hit-and-run victims tried to get the tag and wave the driver. The two victims sustained personal injuries, and the two are expected to be OK. A clip of the video can be seen on CBS2.
A few blocks from the hit-and-run accident scene, law enforcement officers found the red car that hit the pedestrians. The driver had apparently abandoned the vehicle. One of the individuals interviewed for the news report stated that the driver probably abandoned the vehicle because they knew that they had hit someone and that they were in big trouble. Witnesses are being asked to help law enforcement located the driver. People who may have information about the hit-and-run accident are being asked to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline or submit their tip through their website or simply help police investigators through Twitter.com using @NYPDTips. Law enforcement officers also stated that all tips to police remain confidential.
