BROOKLYN, NY- According to Nbcconnecticut.com, a crash in Plainfield Connecticut reportedly killed a man from Brooklyn, New York on Monday, October 8, 2018, at approximately 10 in the morning. The victim, 71-year-old Michael John Niejadlik was traveling southbound on I-395 when he hit a guardrail, drove across the roadway and struck a tree. Niejadlik died at the scene of the collision.
The crash is still being investigated.
Fixed object crashes account for close to one-fifth of all traffic deaths. In 2014, 7,508 people were killed in crashes with fixed objects. These collisions happen when a vehicle leaves the road and strikes an object on the side of the road. In many situations, it would be possible to avoid putting something like a utility pole close to a road. In other situations, making this type of accommodation might not be possible. In those cases, the objects should be made more visible to drivers, and barriers could be put in place to avoid severe crashes.
