
NYPD investigates deadly hit and run
EAST NEW York, Brooklyn, N.Y. — Detectives assigned to the Collision Squad were summoned to investigate a fatal hit-and-run crash in the East New York section of Brooklyn according to WPIX. The driver of a dark colored 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee allegedly ran down the victim and raced away from the scene of the crash. The incident reportedly happened around midnight at the intersection of Linden Boulevard and Barbey Street. Investigators captured the driver who fled from the scene shortly after noon on Wednesday.
NYPD Collision Squad investigators say that a witness who saw the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee run down a 51-year-old man and driver away from the scene. The man who died was attempting to cross the street when the driver of the Jeep turned the corner at the intersection of Linden Boulevard. The Jeep slammed into the pedestrian and sped away. The witness reportedly described the offending car.
Police found the vehicle at the intersection of Jerome Street and McClancy Place with the assistance of the witness. Police found the Jeep Cherokee about two hours after the incident. NYPD detectives ordered the vehicle towed as part of their accident reconstruction efforts.
Investigators say the suspect in the deadly hit-and-run is a man who resides in Brooklyn. The accident victim hailed from Staten Island. First responders rushed the severely injured pedestrian to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. Regrettably, the pedestrian succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the accident.
Investigators did not say how they found the suspected hit-and-run driver, nor did they indicate what means they used to identify him. Finally, the officers did not say where they located the suspect. Notwithstanding, investigators did say that they charged the fleeing driver with one count of leaving the scene after a severe injury and an equipment violation. The man continues to enjoy the presumption of innocence.
