BROOKLYN, NY – According to an article posted on nypost.com, two more riders have brought claims against Revel, the scooter-sharing service, alleging Revel’s mopeds cause them injuries. One victim stated that she was riding a Revel moped close to Linden Street and Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn when the Revel moped “failed to work properly, causing her to lose control and crash and fall from the moped.” The accident caused her to sustain serious personal injuries, according to the charges asserted in her Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit against Revel.
In a separate accident injury lawsuit filed against Revel, a woman rider filed a lawsuit claiming that she suffered serious injuries after a Revel scooter “malfunction” caused her to wreck and receive serious injuries.
The two Revel moped “malfunction accident” cases are just a few of several lawsuits filed against Revel. A lot of the lawsuits claim they were injured due to the shoddy conditions of the Revel mopeds. There are at least five other similar accident injury lawsuits that allege similar issues caused their accidents. The lawsuits also allege that the company is growing so fast that the company did not keep up with maintenance and failed to keep up with rider training.
In another Revel accident injury lawsuit, the rider allegedly applied the brakes, and the brakes locked up. The rider was then thrown off of the scooter.
Revel was suspended from operating in New York City until August of 2020. The company was allowed to resume operation after adding a mandatory selfie to show the rider is wearing a helmet, and each new rider is required to pass a 20-minute safety test.
According to a Revel spokesperson, the company takes rider safety seriously, and the company employs industry-leading safety rules, including a helmet selfie feature and in-app safety training with a test. The spokesperson also stated that the company used experienced mechanics to conduct regular maintenance checks on all of their motorized vehicles. The company was also a Field Team that is ready to provide support and safety checks in all New York City boroughs.
