BROOKLYN, NY- Patch.com writes that a vehicle struck a fence in Brooklyn causing the two occupants to become trapped inside. The crash involved just one vehicle and took place early Monday at 5th Avenue and Ackerson Boulevard.
The Suffolk County Police and emergency services were called to the scene at about 12:45 a.m. The Bay Shore Fire Department and the Bay Shore-Brightwaters ambulance workers aided the police in rescuing two of the people in the vehicle. A third person was also in the car at the time of the crash but was not trapped.
The vehicle’s left doors had to be removed, and the dashboard moved forward in order to get the two victims out of the car safely. The Authorities have not released the names of the victims, the cause of the Brooklyn accident or the extent of the injuries.
Single-vehicle run off the road collisions causes about one out of every vehicle-related fatality in the United States. These accidents often involve one vehicle veering off the road and striking an object or rolling over.
Single-vehicle collisions might be more likely in low visibility, or when roads are slick, but most of the causes of these crashes are entirely preventable driver behavior. The vast majority of these drivers are also speeding.
