BROOKLYN, NY- Abc7news.com reports that Ruthie Ann Miles lost her unborn baby after being injured in an accident that took the life of her 4-year-old daughter. The Tony Award-winning actress was struck by a car in March as she was crossing the street with her daughter, a friend and her friend’s 1-year-old son.
Miles’ daughter, Abigail Blumenstein was killed along with the 1-year-old child, Josh Lew. Miles was 7 months pregnant at the time of the crash. It has now been reported that she lost the unborn baby as well.
The heartbreaking accident resulted from a driver who lost control of her vehicle and drove it straight through a crosswalk full of pedestrians. The driver, 44-year-old Dorothy Bruns claims that she was suffering from a medical condition which caused the accident. There have been reports that Bruns suffers from multiple sclerosis and has a history of seizures.
Following the tragedy, Mayor Bill de Blasio stated that the driver should not have been permitted to drive given her past history of moving violations, which include speeding in school zones and running red lights.
Bruns’ license has been suspended and she is now facing charges of manslaughter. Prosecutors claim that Bruns’ doctor warned her that she should not be driving following an incident that occurred two months prior to the crash when Bruns suffered a seizure while driving and struck a parked car. Despite that warning, she was involved in another minor accident in January 2018, and fled the scene. If she is convicted, Bruns could face up to 15 years in prison.
