A Woman Accused Priest Of Abuse. A woman accused priest of abuse at a Roman Catholic high school three decades ago has won a $220,000 settlement from the Archdiocese of Miami.
The woman has been identified only as “Jane Doe” in court papers. She claimed the Rev. Charles Casetta sexually assaulted her 10 times when she was a student at Cardinal Newman High School in the early 1970s. The school was under the control of Miami’s archdiocese at that time.
Her lawyer said the settlement with the archdiocese and the U.S. Province of Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate was finalized last week. The woman said in a prepared statement that she hopes the settlement “will encourage victims of clergy abuse to come forward.”
