All Lots of Delsam Pharma Artificial Eye Ointment Cream Was Recalled Due to Potential Microbial Contamination Leading to Blindness and Death.
Global Pharma Healthcare has expanded its recall of artificial eyedrop products due to the possibility those products are contaminated with a drug-resistant strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. The bacteria can cause an infection leading to permanent loss of vision and death. So far, there have been 55 adverse event incidents involving different brands of artificial eye drops spanning thirteen states. Many of those patients were thought to have been using previously recalled EzriCare Artificial Eye Drops, which the same manufacturer produces. One person has been hospitalized, another lost their vision permanently, and another victim tragically died after the infection entered into their bloodstream.
Global Pharma Healthcare has issued this new recall of its Delsam Pharma artificial eye ointment cream due to potential microbial contamination after a recommendation was made by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Global Pharma Healthcare has stated that it has not received any adverse incident reports at this time.
Recently, Global Pharma Healthcare issued a recall of its EzriCare Artificial Eye Drops after the eye drops were linked to a deadly multistate Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria outbreak. That incident is currently under investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Global Pharma Healthcare recalled all lots of its EzriCare Artificial Eye Drops.
This recall affects Global Pharma Healthcare’s Delsam Pharma Artificial Eye Ointment. The Batch Number is H29, and it is packaged in a white carton and contained in an aluminum tube, according to the recall announcement. The recalled eye ointment product is labeled with the following product codes:
- NDC: 72570-122-35
- UPC: 3 72570 012235 3
Global Pharma Healthcare has asked wholesalers, retailers, and consumers to throw the recalled products away. The company is also urging customers with eye infection symptoms to contact their physician and report the incident to the FDA. Global Pharma Healthcare stated that customers could contact its distributor, Delsam Pharma, for further assistance or information about the recall.
