Ephedra Company Is Facing A Lawsuit. A Lincoln couple is suing a company that makes pills containing ephedra the drug blamed in the death of their 16-year-old son.
Kevin Riggins says the lawsuit is an effort to penalize the manufacturer financially and to maintain awareness of the dangers of ephedra. Riggins’ son, Sean, had a fatal heart attack last September after taking an over-the-counter product called Yellowjackets that contains the herbal supplement.
statewide ephedra ban
Riggins and his wife filed their civil lawsuit in Logan County today just four days after Governor Rod Blagojevich signed a statewide ephedra ban.
The lawsuit accuses New Jersey-based N-V-E Pharmaceuticals of knowing the dangers of ephedra and failing to warn consumers.
Also named in the lawsuit is Quincy-based Illinois Ayers Oil Company, which owns the convenience store that sold Kevin Riggins the Yellowjackets.
