WARREN, RI – A news story on wpri.com reports that a Rhode Island teenager, has filed a six-count federal lawsuit in Rhode Island District Court alleging Merk, the Gardasil manufacturer, provided misleading information to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to gain approval and the vaccine caused her debilitating injuries. The Rhode Island teen’s product liability complaint alleges Merk engaged in deception and fraud to legalize a vaccine that is now mandatory in states like Rhode Island.
Gardasil is a vaccine that allegedly protects individuals from the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The Human Papilloma Virus has been linked to cervical cancer. The teenaged girl received her first dose of Gardasil in 2014. The next year, Rhode Island’s general assembly passed new laws making HPV vaccinations mandatory for school-aged adolescents.
The teenager states that she received significant and inexplicable side effects almost instantaneously following her first Gardasil inoculation. According to the teen, she suffered severe headaches, tinnitus, and other ear problems. She then told the news outlet that following her second dose, her side effects and symptoms became more serious and severe.
According to the news report, the teen, her parents, and their family doctor began to suspect there was a problem with the vaccine before she was given a third dose of Gardasil. The medical problems have been continuing for over six years.
The family’s federal lawsuit alleges Merck was deceptive and negligent when the company neglected to warn the public about the potential side effects. In addition, the lawsuit alleges that Merck was aware of the adverse events connected with their Gardasil vaccine and failed to disclose this to doctors, patients, and parents. The lawsuit also claims Merck employed fear tactics and financial inducements to persuade state legislatures to make its HPV vaccination mandatory for school children.
