Burn Injury Risk Leads YETI to Recall 241,500 Rambler Travel Mugs with Magnetic Stronghold Lids

WASHINGTON, D.C. – According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, purchasers of the YETI Rambler 20 oz Travel Mug with Stronghold Lid should discontinue use of the mug due to a defect in the mug’s lid that may cause severe burn injuries or other burn hazards.
The CPSC has identified at least 2 cases, which the recalled YETI’s Rambler 20 oz Travel Mug with Stronghold Lid “ejects” hot liquid contents. According to the CPSC, the hot liquid ejects out of the mug even when the mug’s lid has been sealed, leading to potential burn injuries and other burn hazards. The defect involved the mug’s “magnetic slider” lid. The recall was announced on November 4, 2020, and the important safety recall affects over 241,500 units.
Purchasers of the YETI Rambler 20 oz Travel Mug with Stronghold Lid are advised to contact YETI Coolers, LLC of Austin, Texas, for a full refund of $35. Purchasers may also visit yeti.com for additional recall information. The recalled YETI travel mug was sold in a multitude of color options. The recall number is 21-020 and only includes YETI travel mugs that have the date code 34204010. To find the date code, turn the travel mug over, and the date code can be found printed on the bottom of the travel mug base. To find the SKU, check the product’s packaging slip if purchased online, or you may find the SKU number on the purchase receipt if purchased in a store. Some reports claim this model was only sold at authorized YETI stores and Yeti.com.
