Lilly Drug Can Cause Diabetes. A Warsaw man is suing Eli Lilly because he says the drug Zyprexa gave him diabetes and other health problems.
But the company says it’s worked with the Food and Drug Administration and doctors to make sure the drug is safe.
falsely and fraudulently
Gary Stockman filed the suit last week in Marion Superior Court. It alleges that Lilly “falsely and fraudulently” marketed the drug for the treatment of depression.
Zyprexa is used for long-term treatment of schizophrenia and the manic stage of bipolar disorder. It recorded $4.3 billion in sales last year. That’s about one-third of Indianapolis-based Lilly’s sales.
A Lilly spokeswoman said 15 million people have been treated with Zyprexa worldwide since it was approved by the FDA in 1996.
