New Judge To Handle Mirena IUD Litigation In New Jersey. A new judge is overseeing the Mirena IUD multicounty litigation in Bergen County, New Jersey.
Court documents indicate that Judge Brian Martinotti, who has presided over proceedings up until this point, will be leaving the Bergen County bench to assume new duties in Federal Court. He will be replaced by Judge Rachelle Harz. The next upcoming conference call with Judge Harz will take place on August 3rd at 11 am.
The case is In Re: Mirena Litigation, Case No. 297 in the Superior Court of New Jersey Law Division: Bergen County.
Mirena IUD is a contraceptive device marketed by Bayer. It is a hormonal, t-shaped device placed inside the uterus to prevent pregnancy long-term.
Plaintiffs in the litigation allege that they suffered serious injuries when the IUD moved from its original location, and became embedded elsewhere. The suits accuse Bayer of failing to warn about the risk of migration and perforation.
Mirena litigation has grown in recent years. In addition to the Bergen County litigation, there is a multidistrict litigation underway in New York.
