Lawyers Currently Investigating the Zeno Acne Device. The lawyers and attorneys at our firm are currently investigating the Zeno acne treatment device. We are concerned that the Zeno device might be causing some users to sustain facial burns. If you have experienced a burn, blistering, or skin discoloration with Zeno, our medical device injury lawyers would like to hear from you.
Introduced in 2006, Zeno is a hand-held battery-operated device designed with a tip that heats to a pre-set temperature. According to the Zeno Website, the device’s biocompatible tip is designed for direct contact with a blemish on the skin. Once in contact with a blemish, the tip will transfer heat into the follicle.
The Zeno device costs about $160-220 depending on whether the basic, pro, or MD version is purchased. Replacement tips for the Zeno start at around $30.00.
The product’s Website claims that Zeno is made with an internal PID controller chip that continually modulates the temperature to a fixed range even under different skin and circulation conditions. It does this by adjusting the flow of energy to match precisely the heat absorption of the individual user.
Zeno’s microprocessor supposedly adapts not only to an individual’s skin type, but also to the heat absorption characteristics of the location of the pimple. The maker of Zeno claims the level of heat does not cause skin damage.
Zeno promotional materials maintain that patients included in clinical trials experienced little reaction to the low-level heat generated. Other than some temporary skin redness following a treatment cycle, no other adverse side effects were reported.
Our firm has received reports from a number of Zeno users who have sustained facial burns from using this device. We are trying to determine if these injuries are the result of defects in the Zeno device, or inadequate safety warnings and instructions.
Some Zeno users have described developing redness/brownness and a slight bump the size of the Zeno tip. The affected skin looks and feels a bit thicker Some have also claimed to develop a blister where they used Zeno.
It is possible that these types of Zeno injuries are the result of consumer misuse. However, the Zeno promotional information claims that the device’s technology adapts the heat applied to an individual’s skin type and location of the pimple being treated. Thus, if the device is working properly, consumer misuse should not be a safety issue.
Only a thorough investigation can determine what is behind the Zeno injury reports. To conduct an adequate investigation, our medical device injury lawyers need information from anyone who believes they were injured by Zeno.
