WASHINGTON, D.C. — CBD oil distributed across the United States was recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because the product contained large amounts of lead. The FDA alerted consumers to the danger that consuming large quantities of lead could cause kidney damage and cause the person to go into shock. Although the FDA is unaware of any illness associated with the lead contamination, the agency is demanding a recall of all of the potentially contaminated products, according to a report appearing on slashgear.com. The recall is voluntary and involves Kore Organic CBD oil in watermelon flavor from Summitt Labs. The reports indicate that a sample tested positive for high levels of lead.
Consumers who purchased Summitt Lab’s Batch #730 from Lot #K018 must stop using the watermelon-flavored “tincture” immediately. The FDA said that the 4.7 ppm of lead is extremely high and poses a significant health risk. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service tested the lot randomly. However, Summit Labs said that the company conducted a round of tests on the same batch. Those tests showed only 0.5ppm, which is within the legal parameters.
Consuming a product with elevated lead levels could lead to acute symptoms of lead poisoning. The affected person could experience nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, paresthesia (abnormal sensation of the skin), weight loss, muscle weakness, loss of appetite, and a metallic taste in the mouth.
Consumers should return the recalled CBD oil to Summitt Labs. Purchasers could also try to return the potentially poisoned potion to the point of purchase. The firm is using several methods of communicating with its customers to alert them to the recall, which includes personal visits and telephone calls when appropriate.
The FDA notice of recall indicates that Summitt is fully cooperating with the FDA and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The FDA does not consider CBD oil to be a legal drug; however, the company is operating lawfully under Florida law.
