NORWICH, VT.  — King Arthur Flour, Inc. Recalled over 114,000 bags of unbleached all-purpose flour because the company discovered the presence of Escherichia Coli bacteria, more commonly known as E. coli, in its products according to a report appearing on WISHTV.com. King Arthur is working in conjunction with the ADM Milling Company to identify the contaminated lots of unbleached flour and remove them from store shelves immediately.  The U. S. Food and Drug Administration made an announcement on June 13, 2019. The FDA says the agency does not promote any product or company. Instead, the agency provides recall announcement details as a public service.

King Arthur Flour, Inc. said that the company announced the voluntary recall after receiving information from one of its vendors, ADM Milling, that several lots of unbleached flour distributed to retailers like Walmart and Target, could contain E. Coli. King Arthur Flour, Inc. noted that ADM used a batch of wheat that was identified as connected to the ongoing outbreak of e. Coli.  King Arthur recalled the five-pound bags of flour out of an abundance of caution just in case any of the wheat used to make the unbleached flour contained the bacteria. King Arthur Flour, Inc. said that it is not aware of any E. Coli infections stemming from food made with contaminated flour.

In total, King Arthur Flour, Inc. recalled 14,218 cases of unbleached flour. King Arthur admitted that the company distributed the recalled flour to major retail outlets across the country. However, none of the flour purchased from the company store in Vermont or online is recalled. The recalled lots are L18A07C with a best used by date of 12-7-19; L18A08A and L18A08B with a best used by date of 12-8-19; and lots L18A14A, L18A14B, L18A14C with a best by date of 12-14-19. Anyone in possession of these recalled lots should discard the product or return it for a refund.
