Singapore Officials Criticized Bausch & Lomb Recall Timing. Singapore officials are openly criticizing Bausch & Lomb Inc. (BOL) for not acting faster to recall a contact lens cleaner connected to a spate of potentially blinding infections, The New York Times reported in Monday editions.
The officials criticized the company for being slow to recall the solution even after their own research yielded what they said was compelling evidence of a link between the MoistureLoc solution and infections, the report said.
“It’s hard to run away from” the evidence of a problem, said Dr. K Satku, director of medical services at the Ministry of Health. “There are too many things happening here, too many things to be coincidental.”
Singapore health officials three months ago established a strong statistical connection between Bausch & Lomb’s ReNu With MoistureLoc cleaner and Fusarium eye fungus infections, the Times said.
Bausch & Lomb recalled a contact lens cleaner from markets worldwide a week ago, saying that it had found a link between the product and the infection.
