Class-Action Has Been Filed Against Bausch & Lomb. A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Bausch & Lomb on behalf of users of the company’s ReNu contact lens solution.
The New York law firm Parker & Waichman said Tuesday it filed the action based on reports of a serious fungal eye infection in several users of the lens solution. The disorder fusarium keratitis can lead to permanent blindness if left untreated.
The suit filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York asks for compensatory damages to cover the product users’ medical screening and medical monitoring expenses, and also seeks punitive damages against Bausch & Lomb.
Law Firm Filed Suit Against Bausch And Lomb
The law firm said it also plans to file suit against the contact lens maker on behalf of a plaintiff who was diagnosed with fusarium keratitis after using ReNu with MoistureLoc Solution and who had to undergo “numerous lengthy and invasive surgeries including: cornea transplant, lensectomy, capsulectomy, removal of iris, removal of vitreous fluid and the removal of the fungal infection.”
The plaintiff lost all but 15 percent of his vision and is awaiting Food and Drug Administration approval for an iris transplant, Parker & Waichman said.
Last week the FDA warned that the incidents of fungal infection may be linked to the contact lens solution. At the same time, Bausch & Lomb asked retailers to pull the product from store shelves and advised users to switch to a comparable product for the time being.
