A Distributor Pulled All Peter Pan Products From Store Shelves. A Vietnamese distributor has pulled all Peter Pan products from store shelves after reports the brand’s peanut butter may contain salmonella bacteria.
Representatives of the Bao Quang Trading and Manufacturing Company Viet Nam, said the goods, including 720 jars of the likely contaminated peanut butter, were out of grocery stores as of yesterday.
The company is the exclusive distributor of Peter Pan peanut butter in Viet Nam. Peter Pan products used to be sold in many of Ha Noi and HCM City-convenience stores and supermarkets.
The plan of action follows the Viet Nam Food Safety Administration’s warning asking consumers not to buy Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butters suspected of causing a salmonella outbreak in the US.
FDA Traced The Cases Of Food Poisoning
The organisation made the announcement when the US Embassy in Ha Noi received reports the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), based in the US, traced the cases of food poisoning to the product’s manufacturer, the ConAgra Corporation.
According to a press release, the FDA forced American stories to pull all Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butters with product numbers beginning with the number 2111, just before ConAgra put out its own notice February 25.
The FDA is also recommending people throw out any of the brand’s peanut butter purchased since May 2006.
The symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps, said health professionals. The bacteria can be potentially fatal in people with poor health or weakened immune systems.
