ALBANY, NY – May 11, 2020 – According to an online news report published on fox28media.com, one teenager and two small children have tragically passed away in New York state due to a potential coronavirus infection complication. According to Governor Andrew Cuomo, the complications that resulted in the tragic deaths of the three children include heart problems and blood vessel inflammation.
As of May 11, 2020, there have been over 70 New York children diagnosed with symptoms that resemble the symptoms of Kawasaki disease. Kawasaki disease is an uncommon inflammatory condition in children that can result in toxic shock syndrome. Most of the children that are diagnosed with Kawasaki disease are toddlers and elementary school age.
Governor Cuomo reported two additional deaths following the announcement of the 5-year-old boy’s passing at a New York City hospital. The other two children who tragically died due to the mysterious illness were a 7-year old in Westchester County and a Long Island teenager. At this moment, medical examiners and officials are unable to prove the coronavirus causes the inexplicable syndrome. Governor Cuomo did report that the three children had tested positive for COVID-19 or the antibodies; however, the children did not present the typical symptoms of the coronavirus at the time they were hospitalized.
Governor Cuomo announced during his daily briefing, “This is the last thing that we need at this time, with all that is going on, with all the anxiety we have, now for parents to have to worry about whether or not their youngster was infected.” Governor Cuomo also stated that New York state is helping to develop national criteria for identifying and reacting to the mysterious syndrome at the behest of the Centers for Disease Control.
There have been reports across the United States of young children being hospitalized with this unknown condition. The condition has also been reported in several European nations. Medical examiners and doctors still think most children who have contracted COVID-19 will only develop mild symptoms.
