DEBARY, FL – According to news-journalonline.com, a collision that took place on Friday on Interstate 4 left one person dead. The crash occurred at about 7 in the morning. Early information about the accident indicates that the vehicle, a 2002 GMC SUV, suffered a tire blowout. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Ismael Yepez Aguilera of Mount Dora, lost control of the vehicle. The SUV veered off the roadway and hit a tree.
One of the passengers, a man from Mount Dora was ejected from the vehicle when it struck the tree. The man, whose age and name have not yet been released. The victim died at the scene of the accident. Early reports indicate that he was not using his seatbelt at the time.
Aguilera suffered minor injuries in the crash. Three other passengers in the vehicle suffered severe injuries and were taken to the Central Florida Regional Hospital for treatment.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), tire blowouts caused 738 deaths in 2017. Drivers should remember to maintain their tires in order to avoid blowouts that can lead to terrible crashes.
