SARASOTA COUNTY, FL- According to Wfla.com, three people were severely injured in a rollover accident that took place as a result of a tire blowout. The crash occurred on Interstate 75.
The police reports indicate that a 2004 Chevrolet 1500 was traveling north when one of the vehicle’s tires blew out. The vehicle then began to spin, veered off the roadway and into the grass where it rolled over. Four men were in the vehicle when it flipped. Three of the occupants sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Lee Memorial Hospital and the Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The severely injured individuals were 28, 33 and 43 years old. All three were reportedly in critical condition. The fourth person in the truck, a 54-year-old man, only sustained minor injuries.
Tire blowouts are known to lead to rollover crashes, which are some of the most dangerous collisions on the road. Drivers can avoid blowout tires by maintaining their tires and not driving on tires that are bald. In many cases, bald tires are the result of faulty alignment, which causes the tire not to wear evenly. The outer and inner edges of the tires can wear before the rest of the tires leading to the tires becoming worn out prematurely. Weather cracking can also cause issues as can the tires’ air pressure.
Of course, tires need to be replaced when they get older. Once a set of tires reach 8 years old it is only a matter of time before they will give out.
