According to a safety alert published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Hostess Brands, LLC (“Hostess Brands”) issued a recall of certain Hostess® Raspberry Zingers® because specific lots of the snack food may develop mold before the product’s “best by date.”
According to the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service, accidental consumption of mold may cause serious injuries or fatalities. If a food product or beverage is contaminated with mold, an individual may have a serious allergic reaction, which could lead to life-threatening respiratory problems. Also, several molds produce a poisonous substance which is called a “mycotoxin.” This mycotoxin is what may trigger an allergic reaction, injury, or death to an unsuspecting consumer.
