Kinder Surprise Chocolate Eggs Salmonella
According to a news report posted on popculture.com, the multi-national Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs recall has been extended by its manufacturer Ferrero. Ferrero stated on May 7 that it was extending its recall to the United Kingdom. The UK’s Food Standards Agency also confirmed the recall announcement. The recalled candy includes Kinder Niespodzianka Maxi Lei, Kinder Maxi Mix Peluche, Ferrero Kinder Mix Bunte Mischung, Ferrero Kinder Mix Geschenktüte, Kinder Happy Moments, Kinder Niespodzianka Maxi Uni BN, Swieta Kinder Jajko Z Niespodzianka Maxi Uni Wn, Swieta Kinder Maxi Mix Peluche Bn, and Kinder Happy Moment Ballotin 1 in all sizes with “Best Before” date of “August 21, 2022.” Also, all sizes of Kinder Surprise Fille and Kinder Surprise Geant Gar with a “Best Before” date of “April 20, 2022,” and all sizes of Kinder Schokobons Sachet that have a “Best Before” date of “October 26, 2022” have been included in the multi-country recall. These food products that were intended for the European market were imported into the UK by UK importers who are not connected to Ferrero.
The recalled food products made at the Arlon factory in Belgium have been linked to a salmonella outbreak that harmed more than 200 people; most of those sickened are children. In April, all production at the Arlon factory was suspended after a certain salmonella strain that has been infecting people was matched up with salmonella found at the factory in December. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the European Food Safety Authority produced a “Rapid Outbreak Assessment” that disclosed more information about the Salmonella testing. The most recent recall update came just days after the European Food Safety Authority also raised concerns that potentially contaminated products might be on store shelves.
Derby City Council’s Elizabeth Blaney stated that it is crucial for potentially harmful products to be removed from store shelves so that the products are not sold to the public. She also reported that their agency would be working with the Food Standards Agency to ensure that retailers are aware of the recall to remove the products from their shelves.
Consumers who bought the recalled Kinder candy products are warned not to consume them.
