CPSC Issues Warning About Unsafe Girasol Rainbow Love Woven Wrap Sling Carriers Due to Fall Hazard
WASHINGTON, June 15, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is advising consumers to immediately discontinue the use of Girasol Rainbow Love Woven Wrap sling carriers due to their failure to meet the federal safety standard for sling carriers, which poses a risk of infants falling out. The CPSC also cautions against using similar products from Girasol, as they likely share the same safety concern.
Testing conducted by the CPSC revealed that the Girasol Rainbow Love Sling Wrap carriers do not meet the federal safety standard for sling carriers. They lack structural integrity and occupant retention as required. Furthermore, the provided instructions need incomplete warning statements mandated for sling carriers. Sling carriers manufactured after January 30, 2018, are subject to the mandatory federal safety standard.
Baby Earthling LLC (doing business as Wrap Your Baby), the importer of these sling carriers based in Mountainair, New Mexico, has not agreed to recall the affected products.
The Girasol Rainbow Love sling carriers were sold online at www.wrapyourbaby.com until November 2022, with prices ranging from $120 to $165. They are made of woven cotton fabric featuring a rainbow print, starting with red on one end and ending with violet on the other. Available in sizes 5 to 9, the carriers measure between 2.60 meters and 6 meters (8.5 feet to 19.6 feet) and are intended for infants weighing between 8 and 35 pounds.
While CPSC is aware of similar Girasol sling carriers available for purchase online at www.wrapyourbaby.com in various models, such as Girasol Sherwood Woven Wrap Carrier, Girasol Rainbow Baby Woven Wrap, Barefoot Rainbow Girasol Woven Wrap, Sunshine Rainbow Girasol Woven Wrap, Girasol Atlantis Woven Wrap, Girasol Ocean Rain Woven Wrap, Girasol Wisteria Purple Woven Wrap, and Girasol Earth Woven Wrap, the safety of these carriers has not been specifically tested due to the unavailability of test samples at present.
CPSC urges consumers to cease using the sling carriers, cut the wraps to render them unusable, and properly dispose of the product. Any incidents involving injury or product defects should be reported to CPSC via www.SaferProducts.gov.
