Certain Jeep Wranglers manufactured from October 2019 onwards are subject to the recall in question
Jeep has voluntarily recalled a total of 57,885 Wrangler vehicles produced between October 2019 and May 2022, as an unneeded frame stud might cause a fuel leak in the event of an accident.
The vehicles being recalled, which encompass the 2020-2023 Jeep Wrangler models, were constructed with an unnecessary and unused frame stud. Both supplier and vehicle production records have been utilized to pinpoint the timeframe when these frames were introduced into production, spanning from October 16, 2019, to May 14, 2022. Frames lacking the frame stud, or those manufactured outside of this time range, are not part of the recall.
The report also highlights that the presence of a fuel leak near an ignition source could potentially lead to a fire, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants and nearby individuals. The frame stud component was produced by Metalsa S.A.P.I DE C.V., based in Apodaca, Mexico.
As per NHTSA Recall No. 23V-191, the defect impacts roughly 58 percent of the vehicles potentially involved. The company has identified the issue using supplier and vehicle production records and confirmed that no accidents, injuries, warranty claims, or field reports are associated with this problem.
Importantly, if you believe your Wrangler may be affected by this recall, contact your dealer. The recall documents do not specify the VINs involved.
Jeep promptly addressed the issue by investigating the matter, examining supplier data and vehicle measurement data, and collaborating with engineering teams to comprehend the frame design and its modifications. Based on the findings, Jeep has initiated a voluntary safety recall to address the problem.
To resolve the issue, Jeep stated that it would inspect all affected motor vehicles and, if necessary, remove the frame stud and apply paint. The company will also reimburse owners for the cost of repairing a problem that later becomes subject to field action. However, customers must provide the original receipt and other relevant proof of payment for expense verification.
