According to a safety warning from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), fire pit tables sold at Big Lots are being recalled due to a burner kit hose which has been incorrectly installed. The defect can cause the burner kit hose to melt and then ignite while the fire pit table is in use. This poses a significant fire hazard danger resulting in burn injuries and property damage. Sunjoy manufactures the Oakmont LP fire pit tables that are being recalled, and then the units are sold exclusively in Big Lots retail stores. The fire pit tables were sold in Big Lots retail stores nationwide and also online from January 2020 through June 2020 at a price of approximately $480.
Sunjoy reports that the manufacturer has received 17 reports so far concerning its fire pit tables hose being installed incorrectly. Of those seventeen reports, twelve cases involved the fire pit tables catching on fire leading to at least one burn injury and four property damage reports.
The recall Sunjoy’s Oakmont LP fire pit tables are described as a natural square tiled fire pit table that measures approximately 38 inches wide, 25.6 inches high, and 38 inches deep. The fire pit tables also have an all-weather wicker base that covers a 20 lb. liquid propane tank. The fire pit table has an adjustable flame powder-coated steel frame. The fire pit table operates by pressing an ignition button. The fire pit table has an adjustable flame control and includes a steel burner cover.
