Tabletop Propane Outdoor Heaters Are Being Recalled. Brinkmann Recalls about 45,000 outdoor tabletop propane heaters because they can emit high levels of carbon monoxide and have been linked to one death.
The death reported to The Brinkmann Corp. involved carbon monoxide poisoning after a heater had been used inside a camper in Apopka, Fla., the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.
Outdoor Heaters Put Out More Carbon Monoxide Than Permitted
From that incident, the company found that the heaters put out more carbon monoxide indoors than is permitted by a voluntary standard, said Christine Parrish, a manager with Brinkmann. She added that the heaters are not intended for indoor use.
The recalled Outdoor Tabletop Heaters are about 33 inches tall and operate with a disposable 1-pound propane tank. The base of the heater has a label that reads “BRINKMANN OUTDOOR TABLETOP HEATER” and has model number 883-1000-0.
Retailers, including Wal-Mart, sold these heaters from September 2001 through May 2002 for up to $100.
