TWIN CITIES, Minnesota — Target, Inc., issued a voluntary recall for wooden toys that present a choking hazard for small children, according to USA Today. The recall campaign is for the Bullseye’s Playground Wooden Toy Set. The wooden toy set is comprised of small vehicles that have moving parts such as wheels that Target discovered can fall off. Small children can find these little parts and put them in their mouths, thereby causing a choking hazard. Fortunately, Target has not received any reports of injuries or mishaps involving the defective toys.
Target, Inc. one of America’s largest retail stores, issued a voluntary recall of the wooden toy set after receiving four complaints from customers who found that wheels had come off of the toys before the consumer opened the package. All of the recalled sets were sold between October and November 2018, totaling approximately 495,000 toy sets.
Target advises its customers to take these toys away from children immediately. If interested, consumers may return the toys to a Target store for a full refund. Target sold individual toys for $1.00 in their stores and the entire set for $8.00 via Target’s online store.
The notice describes the toy vehicles subject to recall as a train caboose, Santa in a sleigh, ice cream truck or food truck, train, police car, fire truck, taxi cab, and construction digger. All toys sold individually bear the model number of 234-18-0100. Meanwhile, the assortment pack sold online has a model number of 234-20-0189.
Under federal regulations issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, any toy that could potentially pose a choking risk must be labeled appropriately. The warning label must be conspicuous and appear on packaging for every toy that has small parts which could become stuck in a child’s throat if the part became dislodged from the toy.
