John Patrick Feeney In Court. John Patrick Feeney, the former Catholic priest arrested last month in Los Angeles on charges he molested a Freedom altar boy in 1978, was booked Monday night into the Outagamie County Jail.
He will have his first court appearance today.
Feeney, 75, was escorted from California to Appleton by two Outagamie County sheriff’s deputies. Dist. Atty. Vince Biskupic said Feeney’s bond hearing and initial appearance are scheduled for today at 3:30 p.m.
He is accused of molesting a 12-year-old boy and attempting to molest him and his 14-year-old brother in 1978. A six-year statute of limitations is not in effect because Feeney left Wisconsin in 1983.
Feeney was pastor at St. Nicholas Church in Freedom at the time of the alleged incidents.
In 31 years as a priest in the Green Bay diocese, Feeney served at 18 different parishes, including 14 during a 14-year span. A Post-Crescent investigation in May discovered that many of his moves came after allegations of child sexual abuse.
Feeney’s attorney in California said last month that the former priest was looking forward to coming back to Wisconsin to fight the charges.
