Allegations of Sexual Misconduct Against A Priest. A priest at Tampa’s Jesuit High School was fired from his job as teacher for allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor in Texas in 1985, the Jesuit religious order announced Tuesday morning.
The Rev. Vincent Orlando has been relieved of his duties, the school president announced to some 675 students at the college preparatory school for boys.
Orlando was at the school for the past two years. He taught computer classes and last year was assistant track coach.
The Rev. Joseph Doyle further told students a former principal of the school, the Rev. Thomas Naughton, has been relieved of his duties in California pending the results of an investigation of alleged sexual misconduct with a minor in Dallas in 1978.
A final decision on his status is made by his superiors
“Although this is the most painful address I have ever given, I told you that I would always be honest,” Doyle told the students, according to a statement released by the Provincial Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in New Orleans.
Orlando was suspended as a priest until a final decision on his status is made by his superiors, according to the statement, which did not detail the allegations against Orlando or Naughton, who was principal at Jesuit of Tampa from 1969 to 1972.
Doyle, who emphasized that neither alleged incident occurred in Tampa, asked students to come forward with any “further information that I should know.”
