Klein Tools Recalls its Non-Contact Voltage Tester Due to Electrical Shock Hazard

Klein Tools Non-Contact Voltage Tester Lawsuits
Klein Tools has initiated a recall of several models of its “Non-Contact Voltage Testers” due to electrical shock hazards. The recall notice has been published on both KlienTools.com and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) recall page (recall number 21-150). According to the recall announcement, the product defect involves the on/off button. The on/off button might “remain depressed during the power on or power off cycle,” which causes the tester to not work properly. The danger comes when the use is testing an electrical source and the Non-Contact Voltage Tester fails to want the user of the presence of live voltage. This could cause the user to handle “live” electrical wires by accident resulting in severe injuries or death by electrocution. Klein Tools has received two reports of incidents of the voltage tester not working properly, including one shock injury.
The recall was initiated on June 9, 2021 and affects approximately 1,800,000 units that were sold in the United States and in Canada. This recall only involves the Klein Tools “Non-Contact Voltage Testers” that have model numbers NCVT1 and date codes that end with “H7”. The unit was also sold as part of a kit and sold separately. The only corrective action is replacement. To receive a replacement, purchasers are asked to visit www.kleintools.com and then click on the “Safety Recall Information” link that is located at the bottom of the page.
