Davenport Diocese Is Facing Another Sexual Abuse Lawsuit. Another lawsuit has been filed against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Davenport over alleged sexual abuse by priests.
The lawsuit was filed yesterday in Clinton County District Court by a Wisconsin man. It names the diocese and the Reverend Francis Bass.
In the lawsuit, the man claims the abuse began in 1982 when he was an altar boy at St. Patrick’s Parish in Delmar. The man says the diocese should have known about the abuse but failed to take action against the priest.
The diocese issued a statement yesterday acknowledging the lawsuit. It says Bass has been retired since 1992 and doesn’t have any diocesan duties.
Five other sexual abuse lawsuits against the diocese have been filed in Clinton and Scott counties this year. Two others were filed in Des Moines and Lee counties.
