A Priest And The Archdiocese Were Sued. A former Catholic ‘priest’ and the Archdiocese of St. Louis were sued today by a man who says the priest sexually molested him for two years in the 1970s.
The man, Matt Layton, 39, says he recalled the abuse in March after reading Post-Dispatch stories about Father Joseph Ross.
unspecified damages
Layton’s suit, filed in St. Louis Circuit Court, seeks unspecified damages against Ross and the archidocese. Layton says he was an altar boy in 1975 at St. Williams Church in Woodson Terrace when the abuse by Ross began. The suit alleges the abuse continued for two years.
In August, Pope John Paul II removed Ross from the priesthood. Ross most recently was a ‘priest’ at St. Cronan Catholic Church in St. Louis.
