Microbe Contamination Forces Recall of Cold and Flu Medicine

SPARTA, New Jersey — According to an article appearing on Webwire.com, microbial contamination of certain cold and flu medications distributed nationally must be recalled by the manufacturer of the medication with the approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The company that performed the analysis of the questioned samples, MPL Laboratories, concluded that three of the manufacturer’s cold and flu products were contaminated by microbes. The microbes found in liquid medication could induce vomiting and diarrhea. The recall involved the cold and flu medicine called Rompe Pecho and was made by Efficient Laboratories, Inc according to emergencyemail.org. Efficient Laboratories said that it had not received any reports of adverse events.

Three lots of the Rompe Pecho cold and flu liquid medicine have been recalled by Efficient Labs after MPL Laboratories detected microbes in the solution. Efficient Labs identified those lots as Rompe Pecho EX 19F332 expiring June 2022, Rompe Pecho CF 19H359 expiring in August 2022, and Rompe Pecho Max 19B42 expiring in February 2022.  The lot numbers and the expiration dates for the products may be located at the bottom of the carton packaging.

Efficient Labs shipped their products contaminated with microbes across the United States to both wholesalers and retailers. The company will notify its customers about the recall by email and will arrange to either replace or receive returns of the cold and flu medicine. The company also wants customers to stop using the products immediately. Any person who experiences illnesses caused by contaminated Rompe Pecho must report their condition to their physician. Additionally, adverse reactions to this and any other medication should be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch reporting program.

Efficient Laboratories asked its customers to return the product to the place from which they bought it to obtain a refund, or they could simply discard the medication. In no event should consumers continue to use the recalled cold and flu medication.
