STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An accident in New Dorp sent one person to the hospital. The accident happened on Thursday, September 27, 2018, according to silive.com. The incident occurred early in the evening. New York City Police officers did not say if they would charge either driver with a crime or a civil motor vehicle infraction. The investigation is ongoing.
The amount of damage caused by the collision between a green Toyota sedan and a black Honda sports utility vehicle would leave one to believe that the crash resulted in a fatality. Although one person was hurt, it is fortunate that no others were injured.
The first responders who flocked to the scene at Hyman Boulevard and Beach Avenue found one person injured in the green sedan and the black SUV up on a sidewalk and smashed into a tree. Firefighters from FDNY had to pull the injured person from the Toyota sedan. Medics from FDNY EMS transported that person to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze for treatment.
Taking into account the amount of damage to the Honda SUV, one would expect the driver to have suffered severe, if not life-threatening injuries. However, that individual declined medical attention.
NYPD officers did not say how the accident occurred. Photographs of the damage suggest that the black Honda SUV struck the passenger’s front door of the green Toyota sedan and then collided with a tree planted in the sidewalk at a high rate of speed. The SUV’s impact with the green sedan shows that the hit was not straight on, but rather at an angle. The strike penetrated through the passenger’s door and continued into the wheel well.
The black SUV struck the tree on the driver’s front bumper and front panel. The entire front end is demolished from the two collisions. An Emergency Services Unit from NYPD responded to remove the SUV.
