Sex Abuse Case Against Portland Archdiocese. A man and a woman have sued the Archdiocese of Portland for $3.1 million each, claiming they were sexually molested many years ago by priests.
The plaintiffs are identified in the lawsuit only by their initials, “S.E.” and “T.B.”
S.E. says she was molested between 1969 and 1971 when she was between 4 and 7 years old by a “Father Deis” of Sacred Heart Church.
Archdiocese spokesman Bud Bunce said Father Deis was in Junction City during those years and died in 1984 at age 75. There is a Sacred Heart Church in Portland but not in Junction City.
T.B. says he was abused from 1958 to 1962 in his early teens by an unnamed priest at Queen of Peace Church in North Portland.
In the past three years more than 130 people have sued Oregon’s two archdioceses seeking more than $500 million.
The lawsuits allege abuse from 1938 to 1984 and involve more than 35 priests and religious clergy. Most of the priests are dead.
The Archdiocese of Portland has reached settlements with more than 30 plaintiffs.
