Long Island woman arrested for DWI
MOUNT SANAI, NY – August 31, 2020 – According to a news report from DailyVoice.com, a woman from Long Island was charged and arrested for driving while intoxicated and causing serious injuries to a cyclist. The woman allegedly struck a man who was riding a bicycle with her motor vehicle. The collision occurred on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at approximately 2:30 in the morning. The news report states that a 40-year-old woman from Saint James was traveling north in a 2018 Toyota. The accident occurred in front of 745 Mount Sinai Coram Road.
According to the Suffolk County Police, the driver struck a parked GMC pickup truck, which was occupied by a woman and a man. The driver then hit a man who was on his bicycle and leaning against a truck parked on the right side of the road. The driver then hit a sign, a fence, and a mailbox, according to police. The bicyclist, a man from Port Jefferson Station, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital by the Port Jefferson Emergency Medical Services. The man is recovering from his accident injuries, which were severe but non-life-threatening.
After an initial accident investigation by Sixth Squad detectives, the driver was charged with driving while intoxicated by Highway Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team (SAFE-T) officers. The suspect was taken to the Sixth Precinct, and she was jailed overnight. She is set to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip, New York.
