GLEN COVE, Long Island, N.Y. — A pedestrian struck by a car in February passed away earlier this week from injuries sustained in the accident. The woman who died was 25-years-old when she was hit and turned 26 while in the hospital. Nassau Police Detectives investigated the accident and have not found any evidence that the 23-year-old driver who hit the pedestrian violated any criminal law of New York according to LongIsland.com. Police are not expected to issue any criminal charges now that the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries.
The accident that ultimately killed the pedestrian happened on February 19, 2019, around 8:10 p.m. Nassau County Police Homicide Squad detectives responded to the scene to investigation the crash. The detectives who conducted the investigation learned that the female pedestrian was walking across Brewster Avenue from the east side to the west side. While crossing the street, a 2005 Volkswagen headed northbound on Brewster Avenue struck the woman crossing the street. The driver of the Volkswagen remained on scene to speak with police. Newsday reported that the accident scene was located near the Glen Arms apartment complex.
The pedestrian sustained critical injuries in the crash. Nassau County Police ambulance transported the female pedestrian to a local hospital for emergent life-saving measures. The hospital listed the woman in critical condition. The preliminary reports said that the pedestrian suffered severe head injuries in the crash.
Nassau County Homicide Detectives announced that the pedestrian never left the hospital after the accident. Detectives said the woman died on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at 6:10 a.m. Newsday reported that the woman had her 26thbirthday while in the hospital. There was no information about whether the woman regained consciousness after the accident.
Police have not suspected the driver of the Volkswagen of any crimes to date. There was no information from the police indicating whether that might change now that the victim expired.
