Police investigated the accident and were able to locate the 27-year-old Glenwood Landing man’s Camaro at a residence on Glenwood Road in Roslyn Harbor, where the man was arrested without incident. How Fleeing the Scene of an Accident Can Worsen a Pedestrian’s Injuries
Pedestrian accident injuries have the potential to be severe and fatal. However, many injured pedestrians who are the victims of hit-and-run accidents suffer more severe injuries simply because medical treatment is delayed. In some cases, a pedestrian who may have otherwise survived a hit-and-run accident may die from his or her injuries without swift medical intervention.
While both drivers and pedestrians can do more to reduce the incidence of pedestrian accidents, leaving the scene of an accident when a pedestrian is injured only makes the situation worse for everyone. The quicker an injured pedestrian can receive medical treatment, the greater the chances that person has of surviving his or her injuries and making as full of a recovery as possible.
Also, a driver who flees the scene of an accident places him or herself at risk for both criminal and civil penalties, something that may have been avoided had emergency personnel been called to the scene of the accident.
