The victim, a man from Northport, was reportedly in Long Beach when the accident occurred. He was trying to cross Austin Boulevard at the intersection of Marina Path when he was hit by a 2014 Honda Civic headed southbound. The driver was a 74-year-old man. Sadly, this was not the only fatal auto accident to occur on Long Island recently. LongIsland.com reports that a 60-year-old runner was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in Hempstead. The man was crossing Washington St. when he was hit by a 2011 Jeep SUV. Then, while he was on the pavement, he was hit by another car that fled the scene. The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene of the accident. Hempstead police caught the hit-and-run driver after receiving a call from an eye witness. Reportedly, the man had also hit a tree and an LIRR right-of-way secure fencing after striking the pedestrian.
