Malpractice Verdict Involving A Woman Who Suffered Stroke. A Washington Township attorney won a $4.3 million dollar verdict last week in a medical malpractice case involving a 62-year-old Ewing Township woman who suffered a stroke after doctors failed to provide proper post-operative care.
The victim, Inge DeSanto, underwent a carotid endarterectomy performed by Dr. Gerard Crowley in August 1996. She was discharged and then readmitted 13 days later with a massive stroke.
Doctor Failed To Properly Attend A Surgery
The plaintiffs argued that the surgeon and her family physician, Dr. Michael McCarthy, deviated from the standard of care a doctor owes to a patient in failing to properly attend to her following the surgery.
DeSanto had complained of sudden severe headaches which were never diagnosed and which led to the stroke.
DeSanto and her husband, Joseph, wept as the jury foreperson read the verdict.
