A Boy Is Suing An Archdiocese Over Abuse Allegations. A former altar boy is suing an East Haven church and the Archdiocese of Hartford, alleging that a priest who died 10 years ago repeatedly abused him sexually as a child.
Robert Gillespie, now 41, said he was abused for about three years starting at age 8 by the Rev. Thomas Glynn. The abuse occurred in the rectory of St. Clare and a beach house, he said.
“I still feel like it happened yesterday,” he told WTNH-TV.
A spokesman for the archdiocese would not comment.
“The archdiocese is compelled not to comment,” the Rev. John Gatzak said.
The Lawsuit Is Not About Money
Gillespie, a former Navy SEAL, said the lawsuit is not about money.
The lawsuit also accuses both institutions of negligently hiring Glynn when, it says, an investigation would have shown that Glynn had engaged in improper behavior with minors.
